How to Apply

You can apply online at any time of the year. Any other form of submission will not be accepted. However, admissions are in August each year subject to school’s selection and recommendation. To be considered for admission in August, applications must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office, NTU by 28th February.

All applications are referred to the relevant Schools for consideration, after which they are forwarded to the Board of Graduate Studies for approval.

Before sending in the application, check that the information you have entered is correct and accurate. You cannot make any changes to the online application once it is submitted. Also, you cannot make any changes on the hardcopy of the application form; doing this will make your application invalid.

The following items have to be read/prepared before you start on the online application:

3) Academic Referee's Report Form - Form R (2 X 2 pages)

Instructions to Applicants

Please read the instructions below carefully before completing the application form.


1. Supporting documents, if not in English, must be accompanied by certified copies of the English translation of the documents. Supporting documents when submitted are non-returnable. Notarized copies of documents will not be accepted.

2. Do not submit original certificates and documents with your application. Copies of certificates and other documents must be certified true copies. The University will not be responsible for damage or loss of original certificates or documents submitted where these have not been asked for.

3. An official transcript of detailed academic results is required from each university or college attended. The transcript results should show marks obtained in each subject and not grades obtained, wherever possible. If the transcript is in a language other than English, please provide an official English translation as well and the subjects in the translation should be listed in the same order as that of the original transcript. The applicant is responsible for requesting all transcripts from his/her university or universities (use Form T).

4. Three recommendations from academic referees are required for the application. (use Form R).

5. Items 3 and 4 above should be submitted in envelopes sealed by the University and referees accordingly.

6. Personal Statement of Purpose / Essays/ Writing Sample – Please answer the questions as instructed in Annex A.

Annex A

Please answer the following essay questions using separate sheets of paper with your name written on the top. Essays should be typewritten (electronic versions please use Times New Roman, font size 12, single spacing). All questions are mandatory as stated below.

Essay 1: Statement of Purpose – Applicants should discuss the professional, academic and personal experiences that have most contributed to
their desire to study at RSIS, their specific interest in the intended area of focus, and professional goals/objectives upon graduation. (600 words)

Essay 2: Supplemental Essay – Discuss an issue of national or international importance and its concern to you. (600 words)

Essay 3: Dissertation Topic – Applicants should describe their proposed dissertation topic, including research puzzle, proposed research methods to be used, and a literature review for your topic. (3000 words)

Essay 4: Writing Sample – Ph.D. applicants should submit a piece of analytical writing of which he/she is the sole author. The most useful sample is a research paper based on sources in the field of specialization to which the applicant has applied to at RSIS, but a piece of analytical writing in another field is acceptable. (5000-7000 words)

 

7. If you have successfully completed the admission application, you need to send in the hard copy of the online application with all supporting documents in one package by the specified date.

State the programme applied for on the top left hand corner of the envelope and post it to:

* Please do not send your original degree certificates or original transcripts to the University.

8. Any submission of documents separately from the application form will not be considered.


Check Application / Results status

Applicants will be notified of the outcome as follows:

• August intake students will be notified by May/June

You can check the status of your application online. This can be done only after you have received our acknowledgement of receipt of your application.


After Acceptance Procedures

You may check the status of the offer. Upon acceptance of the offer, we will prompt you to set up an email account with us. Future correspondences with you will be through this email account.
